Preview before adding history

  1. Create a full local backup if Penniva already holds records you want to preserve, then open Import and choose your file type.
  2. For CSV, create or select an Import Profile and map the columns. For QIF, review the account destination and any account decisions presented.
  3. Inspect the preview. Check a date, an expense, an income entry and the account mapping against the original file. Correct the profile or account choices before proceeding.
  4. Choose Import CSV or Import QIF, then use Review This Import to inspect the result and any entries that need attention.

A preview helps catch a date read in the wrong order or an amount with the wrong sign. It does not replace checking the finished import against your source. File formats vary, even when two exports share the same extension.

Make the next import easier

Keep a named profile for an export format you use regularly. The next time you bring in that format, you can reuse its mapping instead of starting from blank columns. Recheck the preview if the exporting service changes its headings or layout.

Cleanup rules can help make imported records more consistent. Profiles and rules are local Pro features in 1.1, with continued access for eligible founders. They are separate tools: a profile interprets the file’s structure, while rules work with transaction information.

Check the batch, not only the headline total

Migration Center brings together imported batches, account mapping, review and Undo Import. Inspect the affected batch and the confirmation before undoing anything. Import history and rollback records stay local to the device; syncing financial transactions does not give every device the same undo history.

Starting CSV/QIF imports and creating profiles requires Pro or eligible founder access in 1.1. Existing imported records remain readable if Pro ends. Exporting CSV and creating or restoring a full backup remain free.
