Add an entry in four steps
- Open Transactions and choose Add transaction. Select the appropriate transaction type.
- Enter the amount and choose the account. For a transfer, select the accounts the money moves between.
- Add the merchant or payee and a category where appropriate. Check the transaction date, and add an optional note if you want to remember the reason.
- Save the entry, then find it in Transactions. Save & Add Another is useful when you are recording several purchases together.
Treat movement between your own accounts as a transfer. Recording the same movement as an expense and a separate income can give you a misleading picture of ordinary spending and earnings.
Find the detail when you need it
Search Transactions for a purchase, then narrow the list with Filter & Sort. Filters include transaction type, category, financial account and dates. Open a transaction to inspect its details or choose Edit Transaction to correct an amount, date or category.
Categories connect your entries to monthly budgets and spending reports. A short, consistent set is easier to review than a different category for every shop. Notes can hold the extra context without making the category list harder to use.
Keep the basics useful
Manual entry, account management and viewing your recorded transactions remain free in the prepared 1.1 release. Creating tags and splits is part of Pro, with access preserved for eligible founders. A split can give different parts of one purchase different categories; tags add another way to organize records. Existing tags and splits remain readable if paid access ends.
Core tracking works offline. The totals reflect what you have entered or imported, so compare them with your own records when accuracy matters. Penniva does not fetch live bank balances. You can always keep a separate copy using free CSV export or a full local backup.
